Planning a cosmetic surgery can be overwhelming for people who have not done it before.
There are several things you need to do before you even start looking for a cosmetic surgeon. First order of business is to be organized. Get a small notebook, don't use sticky notes. This is where you'll write all you've learned and research about cosmetic surgery. This would be your "reference book" so never leave it out of your sight.
Divide the notebook into sections. You'll need a section each for all the groundwork items, doctor notes, actual surgery, post-operative and important contacts.
So that gives us 5 sections;
- Groundwork
- Doctor notes
- Actual surgery
- Post-operative and
- Important contacts
Groundwork section
In this section you'll want to write all your research notes. Include all information you've collected on the type of surgery you're going to have. Things such as how long the procedure would be, type of anesthetic, how long would the procedure last, etc. Write all surgery related items here.
This is where you'll also write your research notes on the various cosmetic surgeons, cosmetic surgery clinics/hospitals, cost comparisons between doctors and clinics.
Doctor notes
This where you'll write all you've discussed with your doctor during the consultation. Write all areas you covered so you can come back to it when you need to.
If you talked to several doctors, give them each a page about what you discussed and how you feel about him, his professionalism and your overall impression. This will help you decide on which is the best cosmetic surgeon for you.
You'll also have to include here comparisons of surgery packages and cosmetic surgery costs.
Actual Surgery
You've decided on the cosmetic surgeon and the clinic you'll have your cosmetic procedure. Now in this section write all the medical tests you've taken, and results if possible, plus all paperwork that you need and have done. This will be a big help when the time comes and you're asked by other medical staff if you've had this or that test or are the paperwork signed or not. Just look at you notebook and the answer should be in there.
Also write down little things you'll need when you check-in at the clinic like extra clothes or underwear. You'll maybe be a little nervous just prior to the procedure and may forget the little but important things that can make your surgery more agreeable.
Post-operative
In this section, you'll need to write all instructions from your doctor. Also include the medicines you need to take and their dosages.
Write your next appointment with your doctor so you will not forget. Before surgery, you may have been told certain instructions but because of the pre-surgery rush may have not clearly understood them. A written note on your "reference book" would go a long way.
Important contacts
If your surgery requires you to be anesthetized, even locally, you'll maybe have a difficult time remembering important telephone number and contacts. List down all the important contact persons and numbers you've come across since the start of your research. You'll never know when you'll need to contact someone so a telephone list is very handy.
Another section you might want to include in your notebook is a "To Do" list. You'll also have several things you need to get done before and after the surgery. This may not even be surgery related. Write everything once you think about it and cross it out when done.
